Spanish and turkish gold on the first week of the Laser Worlds

Silvia Morales Gonzalez (ESP) and Anil Cetin (TUR) are crowned as U18 Laser 4.7 World Champions on the final day of the Laser 4.7 Youth Championships.

Two more races of the Final series  were sailed on the Groupama-OTP Balaton Laser 2013 Worlds first event the Laser 4.7 Youth Championships. This way the final results could be calculated on 7 or 8 races one less discard.

Among the 124 girls the spanish Silvia Morales Gonzalez won the gold convincingly. Though she didn’t win any race but sailed very balanced results despite the shifty and tricky lake conditions she had never tried before. In the last race she only had to focus on her sole serious contender the polish Magdalena Kwasna. Both girls are U16 sailors so they were the winners in the younger category too.

The bronze medalists are in U18 Sofia Capparucini from Italy, while at the U16 Jose Maria Marichal from Spain.

The race was much fierce at the boys. The turkish Anil Cetin won the World and European Championship title with a comfortable margin but the places from 2nd to 4th were decided just by one single points. The silver medal was earned by Jonatan Vadnai the 15 years old younger brother of the last year’s world champion Benjamin Vadnai. Jonatan sailed a wonderful last race where after a bad start he could climb up thirty places from the first mark to the finish line. He is the new U16 World and European Champion.

Third in the U18 and second in the U16 Worlds is Nicolas Conor from Australia. After winning three races in the Qualification series Nicolas had a good chance to be the winner of the Championship until the last day when he sailed a bit poorer then before.

The bronze medalist in U16 is Chin Bernie Cheok Khoon from Singapore.

Next week the Laser Radial Women U21 and Standard U21 Championships of the Groupama-OTP Balaton 2013 Laser Worlds  will begin. After the registration and measurement, opening ceremony and practice race the Qualification series will start on the 15th of July.
